Amelia’s journey and intimate exploration on waste to art has ushered her towards supporting many networks focused on reducing the amount of marine debris washing into our oceans. This recycled sculpture work ‘Fisher King’ is made from ghost-nets collected by an organisation called ‘Tangaroa Blue’, which in Maori and Polynesian mythology, is the god of the ocean. Tangaroa made laws to protect the ocean and its sea creatures “Tiaki mai i ahau, maku ano koe e tiaki”… If you look after me, then I will look after you…”.

Lisa is an author, illustrator and composer. Her observations of the bird life that surrounds her daily. The abundance and variety of birds that one notices when both brain and surroundings are quiet, and the realisation of how much we miss out on in the flurry of our busy lives. Lisa’s tree-surrounded studio is like a bird hide and it is always a thrill to witness the unexpected while she is immersed in a painting or writing. Seeing a small Grey Honeyeater hovering in the window watching her type, noticing a gentle fruit dove preening itself on a branch or the vibrant red chest of a shy king parrot sitting peacefully gives her joy.

Daniela’s series of paintings ‘‘The Fools guide to the Ugly Bird’ are satirical. The birds are true to appearance but each have been placed into a meme-like scenario that is easy to identify as very colloquially Australian humour. To ‘get’ the joke is in itself a shared good fortune of living alongside these amazing, adaptable, resourceful and unique species.
Amelia’s sculptural works focus on the misjudged and not so popular feathered friends. Finding the beauty in the unsightly, hideous, frightful and unloved. Amelia’s sculpture works are 3d visual montages, using man-made and bespoke items, blended with traditional artistic mediums. From the cheekiest, the most absurd, the loudest, dirtiest, and of course the most dangerous.
